Privacy Policy

The short version

• Fateen has no accounts. Hosts can buy Fateen Plus or games through the App Store or Google Play, and free games can show ads from our ad partner, AppLovin.
• You decide whether ads may use your device’s advertising identifier: on iPhone and iPad when iOS asks, and on Android in your device’s ad settings.
• The name and emoji you pick are shared only with the people in your room, and rooms are deleted automatically.
• The app sends us anonymous usage and crash data so we can improve it. You can turn this off in your profile.
• We never sell or rent your information.

Who we are

Fateen (“we”, “us”) makes the Fateen app and runs fateengame.com. For anything about your privacy, email support@fateengame.com.

What the app keeps on your device

Your player profile: the name and emoji avatar you choose, and a random player ID the app creates the first time you open it. The app also remembers your language and keeps copies of question images so they load quickly. All of this stays on your device until you create or join a room.

What we receive when you play

• Your profile, when you create or join a room. We receive your player ID, name and avatar so everyone in the room can see who’s playing and which team they’re on.
• What happens in the room. Team names, the categories and lifelines chosen, the questions played, who the host awarded points to, and the score.
• Rooms are temporary. A room, with its list of players, is deleted automatically after it has been idle for at most 12 hours, or a few minutes after the host ends it.
• Finished games. When a game ends we keep a record of it for statistics and to improve the question bank: the team names, the scores, the questions that were played, how many players were on each team and the language. These records don’t include player names or player IDs.

Question reports

If you report a question, we receive the question, the reason you chose, any note you write and the app’s language. Reports aren’t linked to your name or player ID. Our editors use them to fix questions. Please don’t put personal information in the note.

Purchases

Hosts can buy Fateen Plus or games in the app. The store takes the payment, Apple on iPhone and iPad and Google Play on Android: we never see your Apple ID or Google account, your name, email address or payment details.

To give you what you bought, the app keeps a random wallet ID, and a secret that proves the wallet is yours, in your device’s secure storage. For each purchase, the store tells us the product, when it was bought, the price and currency, the store’s country and its transaction or order IDs, and later any renewal, refund or cancellation. The wallet holds your Fateen Plus status, your games and a record of how they were used. It isn’t linked to your name or player profile. The app shows the wallet ID as a support code, so we can help if something goes wrong. The app also sends the store’s record of Fateen Plus bought with your Apple ID or Google account, so Plus bought on another device, or restored, counts here too.

Ads

Free games can show ads from our ad partner, AppLovin. Ads play only on the host’s device: a full-screen ad after the results of a free game, and a video the host can choose to watch to earn a game. Guests never see ads, and neither do Fateen Plus members or hosts playing a game they paid for.

AppLovin’s code runs in the app to choose, show and measure ads and to prevent ad fraud. It receives your IP address and the approximate location it indicates; your device’s model, operating system, language, time zone, screen and network; the app’s name and version; the identifier iOS gives our apps on your device; and which ads were shown, watched or tapped. It doesn’t receive your name, your player ID, your wallet or the usage data described below.

AppLovin can also receive your device’s advertising identifier, which it uses to make ads more relevant to you across apps and to measure them. On iPhone and iPad, iOS asks whether Fateen may track you, and AppLovin receives it only if you allow it; you can change your choice at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking. On Android, it receives it unless you’ve deleted your advertising ID or opted out of ads personalization in your device’s settings (Settings › Privacy › Ads, or Settings › Google › Ads). AppLovin, and the advertisers and ad networks it works with, handle ad data under AppLovin’s privacy policy, which also explains how to ask AppLovin to access or delete it.

Technical information

Like any online service, our servers see technical details of each connection: your IP address, the time, and the app and system versions your device sends. We use them to run the service, keep it secure and stop abuse, such as someone flooding the service with rooms. Server logs are rotated automatically, and we don’t use them to build profiles of players.

Usage and crash data

To learn what works and what gets in the way, the app sends us anonymous usage data: the screens you open; actions such as creating or joining a room, sharing an invite or opening the store, and how long they took; the error codes of anything that didn’t go through; and the crash, freeze and performance reports your phone’s operating system gives the app. Our server adds its own record of rooms and games, such as how many players joined and how a game ended.

This data is grouped by a random install ID that the app makes, which isn’t your player ID. Each event also carries the app and operating system versions, the device model, the app’s language and the country our network provider works out from your connection. We don’t keep your IP address with it, and it never includes your name, your player ID or anything you type. We use it only to improve Fateen, and we don’t share it with advertisers or analytics companies.

To stop it, turn off Share usage data in your profile: the app stops sending it and deletes what it hasn’t sent yet. Deleting the app also resets the install ID.

What we don’t do

• No tracking by us: we don’t combine what you do in Fateen with data from other companies. Ads use your advertising identifier only with your permission.
• No third-party analytics code in the app. The only third-party code is AppLovin’s, for ads.
• No selling, renting or trading of personal information.
• No access to your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone.
• No email address, phone number or real name required.

This website

fateengame.com doesn’t use cookies for tracking or analytics, and it loads no third-party scripts, fonts or images. Our network provider, Cloudflare, may set a strictly necessary cookie to protect the site from attacks.

Service providers

We use a small number of providers to run Fateen, and they process data only to provide their service to us:

• Our hosting provider, whose servers run the game and store the question bank.
• Cloudflare, which delivers the website and the game’s connections and protects them from attacks.
• Apple, which distributes the app for iPhone and iPad and takes payment for purchases in it. If you’ve chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple may share crash reports and usage statistics with us, without identifying you.
• Google, which distributes the Android app through Google Play and takes payment for purchases in it. Google Play may share crash reports and usage statistics with us, without identifying you.

AppLovin, which shows ads in free games, handles ad data for its own purposes too, under its own privacy policy, as described in Ads.

How long we keep data

• Your profile on your device: until you change it or delete the app.
• Rooms and their players: deleted automatically, at most 12 hours after the last activity.
• Finished game records: as long as they help us improve questions. They contain no player names or IDs.
• Question reports: kept with the question’s history while it’s in our question bank.
• Purchases and wallets: as long as you might use what you bought, and as long as the law requires us to keep records of sales.
• Ad data: kept by AppLovin under its own privacy policy.
• Usage and crash data: individual events for up to 25 months, and an install ID until it has gone unused that long. After that we keep only daily totals, which can’t be traced to a device.
• Server logs: overwritten automatically as new logs are written.

Your choices and rights

You can change your name, avatar and language at any time from your profile in the app, and turn usage and crash data off or on there too. You can stop ads from using your advertising identifier in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking on iPhone and iPad, or by deleting it in your ad settings on Android, and Fateen Plus removes ads altogether. Deleting the app removes what it stored on your device, though iOS may keep its keychain secrets, such as your wallet’s, so a reinstall keeps what you bought.

We process information to provide the game you ask for, and, where the law calls it that, for our legitimate interests in keeping Fateen secure and improving its questions. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information, or to object to how we use it. Because Fateen has no accounts, we usually can’t tell which data is yours; if you contact us with details such as a room code, we’ll do our best to help. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

Fateen is a family game. It doesn’t ask anyone for a real name, email address, phone number or location, and names in the game can be nicknames. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think a child has shared personal information with us, for example in a report, email us and we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Fateen handles information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. We’ll point out significant changes in the app or on this website.
